Unlikely Style Icon: Salem Saberhagen from Sabrina The Teenage Witch

It seems we're being treated to a ton of spooky new movies and TV shows in time for Halloween this year, particularly on Netflix where there's too many new Netflix Originals, as well as old horror classics, being added to choose from. One release we're massively excited for is supernatural horror series Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

An adaptation of the 2014 comic book series of the same name, it's a dark coming-of-age tale that "traffics in horror, the occult and of course, witchcraft". As you can imagine even merely from the name of the series, it's worlds away from its predecessor, one of our favourite 90s sitcoms Sabrina The Teenage Witch.

Promisingly, the ABC show's star Melissa Joan Hart has voiced her support for the show, telling E! News: "I think what they're doing is smart, doing the darker version. I think it's going to be more like Buffy the Vampire Slayer than the Sabrina that most people know."

One of the biggest differences you'll find in the new reboot, maybe to your dismay, is the one and only Salem, Sabrina's feline familiar and sidekick. Instead of an animatronic puppet, Salem will this time be played by a real life kitty who recently made his impressive debut strutting the red carpet at the new series' premiere in LA last week. As adorable as he may be, though, we couldn't help but to reminisce about the pet from the past.

From the few clips that have been released by Netflix so far, it's clear that this handsome kitty sadly doesn't have a lot to say for himself this time around, so he's certainly not to be confused with the hilariously witty 90s sitcom cat, famously voiced by Nick Bakay.

Sabrina herself may have been the protagonist but we can surely all agree that Salem was by far the best thing about the series, and maybe even arguably one of the funniest sitcom characters ever. He consistently stole the show with his deadpan sarcasm, witty one-liners, his massive ego and his mischievous ways. He was iconic for his shameless honesty and always speaking his mind - but let's not forget his killer outfit choices, the reason why we're crowning him Rokit's Unlikely Style Icon this week.
