Founded in Paris in 1854 by Louis Vuitton himself, Louis Vuitton is one of the world’s most luxurious labels. His first product was a lightweight and airtight flat-topped trunked, which was more easily stackable than the rounded-topped trunks that were common at the time, making them very popular. After gaining many fans in Paris, Louis Vuitton soon went worldwide - in 1871 it recorded its first ever Japanese customer and in 1885 it opened its first London store, which was located in Oxford Street. In 1896, after Louis’ son Georges Vuitton had taken over the business, the brand introduced its signature monochrome canvas and patented it, which proved successful in preventing counterfeiting. This pattern is now instantly recognisable all around the world and is often seen on celebrities such as Naomi Campbell, Angelina Jolie, and Beyoncé.
