Stunning 1940s Vintage Air Associates S-12 Alpaca Lined Leather Flying Suit
Absolutely stunning commercial leather flying suit manufactured in the 1940s by an American company 'Air Associated Incorporated' out of Garden City NY. and Chicago ILL.
The suit features one breast pocket for maps and navigation equipment as well as two knee pockets and two buttoned cuts under the waist to gain access to trouser pockets. Made from treated chocolate-brown 'glove' leather, lined with an alpaca fur pile lining. The beaverized sheepskin hood can be worn up or down and can be wrapped around the neck and secured with a buttoned leather flap. The belt around the waist is the same leather as the shell with a leather-bound buckle. It is also named to 'Meyers' on the inside of the belt.
All components are in fantastic condition with very little wear from use. Leather is extraordinarily supple for its age. It exhibits some hardly noticeable wear such as minor fading and some very minor damage here and there. There is a small tear on the seam beneath the belt on the front, but it does not fully perforate the leather shell. The alpaca pile lining is in perfect condition with no patchiness. The Beaverized lambswool collar has some wear around the edges, but is otherwise perfect, supple and soft. All original fittings and fixtures are present including talon zips, brown bakelite buttons and 'UTD-CARR Fast Corp.' snaps. The manufactures label is present and fully legible.
On the left ankle cuff, a paper launderer's label is attached by a wire clasp. The name and address of the original owner is still visible.
