A month or so back we managed to pick up a large amount of dead stock Benetton and Benetton brands; we’re still amazed we get these finds brand new in boxes with tickets and tags from the 1970s and 1980s! It had sat in a warehouse near Florence Italy for 50 years, and so is excellent quality - they don’t make clothing like they used to!
Our Rokit Originals Department has a new line, taking unused vintage cloth and making unique future vintage garments. We find cloth in diverse locations all over North America and Europe pieces as small as 2 metres X 2metres up to whole rolls of cloth much of which has sat in warehouses, barns and workshops for many many years, once we have cleaned and pressed it. It is better than new. Having “new” fabric gives us the opportunity to make exclusive current style items, all hand made in London We are more and more using the “old fashioned” techniques copied from the great fashion houses of the past making clothes properly, not just thrown together and soon to be thrown away. An item you can cherish. You will not have to worry about someone else showing up at the party with the same piece.
You can't get much more sustainable than that.
Watch this space there are lots of new and innovative ideas at Rokit - all will be revealed soon!
Rokit was founded in 1986 as a stall in London’s iconic Camden market, specialising in vintage denim thrifted from American cowboys. After immediate success, Rokit Vintage opened 4 stores in Camden, Brick Lane and Covent Garden, each bringing diverse and unique product ranges to a loyal band of regular customers, celebrities and tourists. Within 1 year of launching, Rokit Recycled was created as an outlet for unsuitable stock to be reworked and given a new life. Rebranded as Rokit Originals in 2018 and following huge demand, Rokit Vintage’s 107 Brick Lane store was redesigned as a Rokit Originals boutique in June 2020.
ENTIRELY SUSTAINABLE ROKIT ORIGINALS STORE OPENS ON BRICK LANE
Rokit Originals are a fresh voice in the sustainable and recycled fashion movement.
LONDON, AUGUST 2020 – Rokit Originals is an innovative fashion-forward, recycled brand originally created to repurpose unsuitable vintage stock from the parent brand, Rokit Vintage. With the huge success in Rokit Vintage’s stores and E-Commerce site, 107 Brick Lane has been boldly redesigned as a permanent Rokit Originals boutique. Filled with beautifully unique garments handmade in London, limited edition and trend right pieces, 107 Brick Lane is entirely reworked and entirely sustainable.
The team scour North America for the finest vintage fabrics and mill end rolls for limited edition and one of a kind pieces to create. Different cloths are discovered from 70s polyesters to 50s unique designs and reimagined into daring and classic pieces like no other. Designs are considerately developed to compliment the vintage textiles at hand, most of which are in tiny quantities. This makes the majority of pieces one offs and once sold, they cannot be replicated so you’ve got to be fast to get your hands on these. The remnant textile range is complimented by the reworked collection of leather bags, baby tees, re-tailored denim and much more. No dream is too big when it comes to the creative team of slow fashion enthusiasts, so expect to find a variety of fun designs in Rokit Originals’ pink and red heaven at 107.
“Recycled and sustainable doesn't have to mean hessian and brown paper - it can be fun, in your face, and still sustainable. Rokit Originals is a fresh voice in the recycled fashion movement, and we believe pieces can be affordable and trend led! We are creating the vintage of tomorrow and our pieces stand the test of time" said Kathryn Hewitson, Studio Manager.
The affordable boutique focuses on pieces that will last, and fights against the throw-away culture of fast-fashion. Known for their eclectic image derived from vintage fashion and current trends, Rokit Originals have curated a wider range than ever before - and they’re not stopping there! The store boasts exclusive collections, pop-up workshops, events and customisations so 107 Brick Lane is so much more than a store, it’s an experience!
