Founded in Paris in 1837, Hermès originally specialised in creating leather harnesses and saddles for the European elite (which is still reflected in its logo of a horse and carriage) before stepping into the world of high fashion in the early 1950s when it introduced handbags, jewellery, and other accessories to its collections. Nowadays the brand is well known for being adored by the rich and famous, a precedent that Grace Kelly set in 1956 when she was photographed carrying their sac à dépêches handbag. However, perhaps the most notable Hermès devotee is Jane Birkin, after whom the brand named their most iconic creation - the “Birkin” handbag. Often seen swinging from the arms of A-listers and supermodels like Lady Gaga and Kate Moss, Hermès bags have never lost their star appeal.
