Hattie Carnegie's take on Christian Dior's famous New Look bar jacket.
Produced in the late 1940s for I.Magnin & Co.
A beautifully constructed, exceptionally well made and sculptural piece.
A nipped in waist and interfacing at the hip produces a stunning hourglass figure and a flat front.
The small waist is balanced by padded shoulders, which lend an elegant and tailored aspect to the silhouette.
Cuffs are finished with small vents and the jacket is completed with topstitched fabric covered buttons.
Fully lined in black silk crepe.
At the time of production women aiming to create the New Look silhouette would have worn corsetry, this can be seen to explain the huge discrepancy between the 40" chest and the 29" waist seen on this jacket. Please bear this in mind when considering your purchase.
Hattie Carnegie is a renowned name in vintage fashion, her pieces reside in the Victoria and Albert Museum, The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the personal collections of vintage fashion connoisseurs worldwide.
