RIP David Bowie
Today we say goodbye to visionary and true legend David Bowie - an icon in the greatest sense of the word. Here at Rokit HQ, we were devastated to learn of his passing, and wanted to pay a tribute to the one and only starman who began his life as David Jones in Bromley, south London.
Bowie was king of the freaks from the offset, embracing all that was offbeat and otherworldly - whether that was gold lame, mullets or bisexuality. From wearing a dress on the cover of his 1970 album The Man Who Sold The World, to shaving his eyebrows for his Ziggy Stardust tour, shocking the masses was what Bowie knew how to do best. Master of reinvention and musical innovation, his genius lay in his ability to constantly evolve as an artist, and he expressed it in various incarnations over his six-decade career- from Aladdin Sane to the Thin White Duke. It was this endless chameleon quality that separated him from other artists and placed him in another league as one of the most extraordinary stars to have walked the planet.
Bowie's visionary talents also extended to acting, producing and painting. He was a truly cosmic artist, always going against the grain and able to speak to everyone. His outlandish and fearless attitude captured the hearts and minds of so many and changed the face of music, culture and fashion forever. Above all, though, Bowie gave us all permission to be a weirdo - and for that we are truly grateful. As one of the greatest and most important artists of all time, he will undoubtedly live on forever, providing endless inspiration for future artists. So, farewell sweet starman, and rest in Mars!
