Rokit Camden - theatre of dreams, place of learning...

Ever wondered what it's like on the dark side (aka the other side of the Rokit counter)? Well ponder no more because following a week's work experience in our Camden store, the lovely Meriame gives us the lowdown...

"Instead of changing into my usual uncomfortable purple and black uniform I slipped on my favourite pair of jeans and left for the commute on the busy tube (ahh, Northern Line, not just a dodgy 90's boy band; also a loathesomely sweaty and packed daily reality for many poor souls...) to Camden's Rokit. For the past 5 days I have been thrown into the adult world of work, and have actually really enjoyed it.

To be honest I was quite nervous on day one, but within the first 5 minutes of being in Rokit, I had overcome that and felt like I'd been here for months thanks to all the staff who were really friendly (halo polish at the ready, Camden catz) Not only was I surrounded by beautiful fur coats, stunning sequinned tops and an array of bright colours, I was also lucky enough to work with people who I see as kind, considerate and generally a good laugh. My only dislike has been the freezing cold weather and heavy snow (not least because our Camden branch features an open front - breezy in summer, freezy in winter. Yes freezy, it's a word)

I've learnt a lot during this week, concerning the history of fashion and how past trends influence what we wear today. I now also know dressing a mannequin has a lot more thought put into it then just matching clothes together. Each mannequin at Rokit actually has a whole story behind it!

Of course I wouldn't have been able to enjoy myself as much as I have done without everyone working here so I'd like to thank all of the staff working at Rokit that have been part of my work experience for making it something I will look back on as a good memory. Thank you Rokit !"

So there you have it, sounds like she had a whale of a time!
