Q&A with Alex Burey at Green Man Festival 2015

Posted on

London producer and songwriter Alex Burey captivates his audience with his sensitive, beautiful lyrics and delicate style. His classically trained musical background evokes an artful skill about his music, uniquely paired with the inspiration he draws from 60's/70's psychedelic and the music of Pink Floyd.

What about Green Man appealed to you as an artist?

I've never been to or played Green Man before. I've heard that it I has a really friendly atmosphere. The line up looks great this year too. Excited for Patrick Watson and Charles Bradley.

What do you usually start with when working on a new piece?

It's always different depending on how I'm feeling that day. If I've been outside a lot it's usually quite loose and just based on the mood I am in. But if I've been around people a lot I tend to write about situations; more lyrical.

What's one wardrobe essential you can't live without?

A plain white top. A very safe bet I know!

Sometimes you just have to stick to the classics! What's your favourite pizza... classic margherita or do you go more adventurous?

Franco Manca's number 6. Tomato, Chorizo & Mozzarella

What inspires you?

Everything. Have found myself very affected by the weather lately. The sun gives me a happy type of inspiration. The winter inspires me too but it's easy to be a bit too indulgent.

Alex's new single 'Waiting on tomorrow' is released on September 4th, featuring contributions from the funk/soul collective The Dap-Kings.

"With 'Waiting On Tomorrow', Alex Burey comes full circle; a moment of pure 21st Century Soul that's adrift on a sea of sun-kissed brass and Alex's already-distinctive warm, mellow vocals. "
