Label sizes of vintage garments are different to today’s standardised clothing sizes and are sometimes not labelled at all. Through general wear and washing garment sizes do alter so we measure all our clothes to give our customers the most accurate indication of size. To help you work out which clothing size is right for you we have included examples of how we measure our garments.
The best way to calculate your correct size is to measure a garment you already own which is similar and you know fits you. Measure it in the same way that we measure our garments as detailed below and compare the measurements.
Shirts/Blouses/T-Shirts/Jumpers/Sweatshirts/Coats/Jackets
We take a chest measurement from an inch below the underarm, for the length we take a measurement from the collar or top of the shoulder to the hem of the garment, and for the sleeve we measure from the shoulder to the cuff unless it has a raglan style sleeve in which case we take the measurement from collar to cuff.
Dresses
We take a chest measurement from around the bust line, a waist measurement from the narrowest part and a hip measurement from the fullest part, for length we measure from the collar or top of shoulder to the hem of the dress.
Skirts
We take a waist measurement from around the waistband and if it is high waist or fitted skirt we may include a hip measurement taken from the fullest part of the hip and we measure the length from the waistband to the hem of the skirt.
Jeans/Trousers
We take a waist measurement from around the waist band and an inside leg measurement.
